Hi,
I found this video obtained from the combat camera very interesting. It made me think again wheather it is a good idea to bring alive the decission to withdraw the Canadian troops by December 2011, as the conservative government revised consultations with the Liberal party, the extension of almost another three years is to have a focus on reconstruction and training of Afghan troops, and sets a firm pullout date, mainly due to common opinion, that the population prefers a road to peace. I just keep asking myself, if the three years time would be enough to finish the reconstruction.

Jay: Thanks for commenting. Past experience has indicated it will be impossible to bring the Afghan people under control. The Brits and Russians tried and were soundly defeated. There are some military experts in the US who are saying it will take 10 or 20 years to try and train the Afghans to take control of their country. I don't think the American public has the stomach for a war that will last that long.

thank you for your fast response. I agree with you, it will take long time and the we can not be sure about the outcome. It will be difficult to keep support of American public for such a long time period. I have worries about the situation after western countries withdrawal from the region. But unfortunately we will probably not find the answer right now.

Hi Jay....Thanks again for your excellent comment. You're right about NATO forces pulling out and leaving the job up to the U.S. The problem is we don't have the troops available for an expanded mission. Iraq is still very volatile and there has been an increase in suicide bombers who are now targeting checkpoints. We still have 130,000 troops in Iraq and will most likely need them as conditions worsen. Afghanistan is a horrible situation because we are slipping into "nation building" and that is something we shouldn't be doing. Thanks again, Jay.

you are right, the Nation building is the responsibility of international institutions, it should not be left only on one nation. Surely we are doing maximum, but we can not be everywhere and we can not do it on our own.

Jay: Here in the States, we hear the US command in Afghanistan wants another 30 to 60 thousand more troops. People are fed up with this war.
