THE OTHER WAR: AFGHANISTAN THE FORGOTTEN WAR: PBS DOCUDRAMA OF US TROOPS IN SMALL OUTPOST IN KENGAL VALLEY, AFGHANISTAN (PLENTY OF WAR VIDEO ACTION)

They now call Afghanistan "The Forgotten War" because nobody seems to care about our troops deployed to Afghanistan.

In this video, you see the daily fighting that takes place in one of the deadliest parts of Afghanistan---Kengal Valley.

The local population have sides with the Taliban because they don't want the Americans in their country.

Perhaps someday the media in the United States will report on Afghanistan, but I doubt it very much because very few people in the media have ever been in the military and most people in the United States don't even know someone in the military let alone have a family member in the military.

WHAT A GREAT VIDEO: 1ST I.D. "VIPER COMPANY" KORENGAL, AFGHANISTAN--NBCS RICHARD ENGLE REPORTS

The real name is Bravo Company but these GIs in Afghanistan prefer to be called "Viper Company" of the 1st I.D.

In this video with NBCs Richard Engle reporting, you see "Viper Company" in a fierce firefight with the Taliban in Afghanistan and you even see them take time to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Who are these young men? How could anyone not be interested in what our GIs are doing in Afghanistan and Iraq?

I'll tell you who. People who have no vested interest in the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq because they don't have a family member in the United States military. That is who.

Or they are people who have never served in any branch of the United States military. That is who.

If there were a draft like we had with World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, you would suddenly see a lot more interest in the wars on the part of the media because the people of America would be demanding more coverage rather than the petty political bickering that goes for news all day long on the three cable news outlets.

THE IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN WARS HAVE BECOME "THE FORGOTTEN WARS"

OBAMA: AFGHAN CONFLICT WILL BE REVIEWED--WASHINGTON POST

Obama Sees Troops As Buying Time, Not Turning Tide

By Karen DeYoung Washington Post Staff WriterTuesday, January 13, 2009; A01
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/12/AR2009011203492.html?hpid=sec-nation

President-elect
Barack Obama intends to sign off on Pentagon plans to send up to 30,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, but the incoming administration does not anticipate that the Iraq-like "surge" of forces will significantly change the direction of a conflict that has steadily deteriorated over the past seven years.

Instead, Obama's national security team expects that the new deployments, which will nearly double the current U.S. force of 32,000 (alongside an equal number of non-U.S.
NATO troops), will help buy enough time for the new administration to reappraise the entire Afghanistan war effort and develop a comprehensive new strategy for what Obama has called the "central front on terror."

With conditions on the ground worsening by nearly every yardstick last year -- including record levels of extremist attacks and U.S. casualties, and the expansion of the conflict across Pakistan and into India -- Obama's campaign pledge to "finish the job" in Afghanistan with more troops, money and diplomacy has encountered the daunting reality of a job that has barely begun.

Since the November election, Obama has been flooded with dire assessments of the war. A National Intelligence Estimate warned that a reconstituted
al-Qaeda leadership, dug into the mountains along the Afghan-Pakistani border, continues to plan attacks against the United States and Europe.

The Bush White House delivered a major review of Afghanistan last month that echoed that judgment, acknowledged that a modern Afghan democracy -- stable and free of extremists -- may be both unattainable and unaffordable, and said that the United States may have to accept trade-offs among priorities.
