Republicans, Fox News and MSNBC's Joe Scarborough could not be more
patently wrong by saying the Obama approved U.S. Drone attacks that targeted
some Americans in Afghanistan and Pakistan who are giving aide and comfort to
the enemy is worse than the waterboarding that the Bush/Cheney administration
approved of during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
To begin with waterboarding (enhanced interrogation techniques) and
Drone attacks are a non-sequitur. They aren't even in the same ballpark.
It is a well known fact that waterboarding never produced an ounce
of credible intelligence, but you would never know that by listening to
Republicans, Fox News and Joe Scarborough.
In fact, one of the detainees housed at Gitmo was waterboarded over
180 times and he never gave his interrogators anything of value they could use.
Today, John Brennan will face a battery of attacks from Republicans
in a Senate confirmation hearing for his appointment by Obama to head up the
CIA. Brennan has been a valuable member of the intelligence community for over
25 years.
The lies by the Repbublicans on the confirmation hearings committee
wlll be flying fast and furious, but all Brennan would have to do is remind the
Republicans that Drone attacks have prevented hundreds if not thousands of U.S.
troops from being killed in Afghanistan.
Brennan should also remind the Republicans that Vice President Dick
Cheney pulled out all the stops and lied about Saddam Hussein having Weapons of
Mass destruction and a nuclear capability.
Cheney's lies cost 4,700 American lives in Iraq and another 70,000
troops severely wounded. Also, it is estimated over one million Iraqi citizens
were killed during the course of the four year Iraq war.
The Republicans, Fox News and Joe Scarborough have accused
President Obama of keeping secret the operation of our un-manned Drones in
Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Obama has made available to the Senate committee holding hearings
today a complete report on our Drone operation and why some Americans were
targeted because they were working with the enemy.
