NEW YORK TIMES IS REPORTING U.S. AND AFGHAN TROOPS HAVE LAUNCHED BIGGEST BATTLE OF AFGHAN WAR
The battle for the city of Kandahar has been launched by U.S., NATO and Afghan forces.
Kandahar is the stronghold and the base for all Taliban operations in Afghanistan.
Sources say it will be a very costly battle because the Taliban have said they will not give up the city to Allied troops.
The New York Times reported the start of the offensive in Sunday's paper.
