One of the deaths was an American, who was killed in the northern part of the country. No details were immediately available.

A Polish soldier was killed in an attack on his convoy in Ghazni province, the Polish Defense Ministry said in a statement. The nationality of the soldier killed in a third bombing in southern Afghanistan was not yet known.

More than 1,000 U.S. troops have been killed since 2001 when the Afghan war began.

Glenn Beck, who never served a day of his life in the military, says our troops should "shoot all captured enemy combatants in the head" in this video from the Fox News "Fox and Friends Show."

Makes one wonder if Glenn Beck has ever heard of the Geneva Conventions or even Rules of Engagement.

KARZAI DOUBTS U.S. AND NATO TROOPS CAN DEFEAT TALIBAN

Karzai Is Said to Doubt West Can Defeat Taliban

By DEXTER FILKINS, The New York Times

KABUL, Afghanistan -- Two senior Afghan officials were showing President Hamid Karzai the evidence of the spectacular rocket attack on a nationwide peace conference earlier this month when Mr. Karzai told them that he believed the Taliban were not responsible.

"The president did not show any interest in the evidence -- none -- he treated it like a piece of dirt," said Amrullah Saleh, then the director of the Afghan intelligence service.

Mr. Saleh declined to discuss Mr. Karzai's reasoning in more detail. But a prominent Afghan with knowledge of the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Mr. Karzai suggested in the meeting that it might have been the Americans who carried it out.

Minutes after the exchange, Mr. Saleh and the interior minister, Hanif Atmar, resigned -- the most dramatic defection from Mr. Karzai's government since he came to power nine years ago. Mr. Saleh and Mr. Atmar said they quit because Mr. Karzai made clear that he no longer considered them loyal

2 U.S. TROOPS AND 11 AFGHAN CIVILIANS KILLED FRIDAY

By AMIR SHAH, ROHAN SULLIVAN

updated 7:00 a.m. CT, Fri., June 11, 2010

KABUL, Afghanistan - Two U.S. troops and at least 11 civilians died in violence across southern Afghanistan on Friday, including one attack in which a suicide bomber wearing a burqa blew himself up in a bazaar.

Violence has spiked recently in Afghanistan's volatile south as Taliban insurgents step up attacks ahead of a planned major operation by NATO forces to secure the main city of Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, said in Brussels on Friday that insurgents have killed 59 Afghans during the past seven days, 54 of them in Kandahar. He told NATO ministers that insurgents also wounded 116, including 94 in Kandahar.

IRAQ WAR IS NOT OVER: 2 AMERICANS 3 IRAQIS KILLED BY CAR BOMB

Iraq: Car bomb kills 2 Americans, 3 Iraqis

ADAM SCHRECK June 11, 2010 10:47 AM EST BAGHDAD — A car bomb struck a U.S.-Iraqi military convoy north of Baghdad on Friday, killing at least five people, including two American troops.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20100611/ml-iraq/

Iraqi officials said a suicide attacker hit the patrol of Humvees and Stryker vehicles in the town of Jalula, about 80 miles (125 kilometers) northeast of Baghdad, not far from the Iranian border.

American forces responsible for operations in Iraq's north confirmed the casualties in Diyala province. Names of the casualties were not released, pending notification of family members.

They said three Iraqis, including one police officer, were also killed, and about 22 were wounded in the blast.

A man who was watching the patrol from his doorway when the bomber struck said he believed troops were searching for weapons after a dispute among residents brandishing hand grenades and firearms the previous day.

The man, who gave his name as Abu Kowyan, said the assailant attacked from a nearby alley, ramming his car into the joint patrol as troops were getting out of their vehicles.

He said he counted about seven or eight American soldiers lying on the ground shortly after the blast. The fiery explosion shattered windows in his house 20 yards (meters) away.

Iraqi police, hospital and local officials said the blast killed five Iraqis, including a policeman and a woman, and wounded 14 others. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to release the information.

Conflicting casualty tolls are common in the confusion after an attack.
U.S. forces have largely pulled back from urban areas in Iraq as Iraqis take responsibility for securing their country before a full American withdrawal by the end of next year.

The number of Americans dying in Iraq has dropped sharply, but attacks continue.

Friday's attack raised to at least four the number of American deaths this month, but the two earlier ones were not related to combat, according to an Associated Press tally.

The Jalula bombing was the second deadly attack in Iraq on Friday.
A bomb hidden in a pile of trash exploded at a market in southern Baghdad, killing three people. That explosion, in the capital's Dora neighborhood, wounded 10 people.

U.S. CHOPPER SHOT DOWN IN AFGHANISTAN: 4 AMERICANS DEAD

Copter shot down in Afghanistan; 4 Americans dead

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Insurgents shot down a NATO helicopter and killed four American troops in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, the military said, in the latest bloodshed ahead of a major operation in the militants' heartland.

The violence came as Afghanistan's ousted intelligence chief warned in an interview with The Associated Press that Afghan President Hamid Karzai's strategy of seeking reconciliation with the Taliban was dangerously flawed.

The deaths, and that of a British soldier killed by an improvised bomb in a separate attack Wednesday, take NATO's toll to 29 deaths in nine days, according to an AP count. The United States, whose some 94,000 troops vastly outnumber the rest of the allies' contributions in Afghanistan, has lost 17 service members since Sunday.

BOMB KILLS 2 US TROOPS; NATO LOSSES AT 24 FOR JUNE

Bomb kills 2 US troops; NATO losses at 24 for June

By ROHAN SULLIVAN

Associated Press Writer
updated 8:07 a.m. CT, Tues., June 8, 2010

KABUL, Afghanistan - Three more NATO troops were killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday, the military said, extending a spike of bloodshed into a second day and pushing the death toll for foreign forces in the country to 24 in little more than a week.

The latest deaths, including at least two Americans, came as insurgents step up bombings and other attacks ahead of a major NATO operation in the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar that Washington hopes will turn the tide of the nearly 9-year-old war.

Monday was the bloodiest day this year for international forces in Afghanistan, when seven American troops, two Australians and a French Legionnaire were killed in five separate insurgent attacks in the south and east of the country. Two civilian contractors training police, an American and a Nepalese, also died in a brazen suicide attack Monday in the southern city of Kandahar.

NATO said two service members were killed Tuesday in a makeshift bomb blast in southern Afghanistan, and the U.S. military confirmed they were Americans.

NATO said later that another service member was killed Tuesday in small arms fire in southern Afghanistan. No further details were given.

The bloodshed Monday came as insurgents step up bombings and other attacks ahead of a major NATO operation in the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar that Washington hopes will turn the tide of the nearly nine-year-old war.

Half the NATO deaths - five Americans - occurred in a single blast in eastern Afghanistan, U.S. spokesman Col. Wayne Shanks said without giving further details. It was a grim reminder the insurgents can strike throughout the country - not simply in the south, which has become the main focus of the U.S. campaign.

Two other U.S. troops were killed in separate attacks in the south - one in a bombing and the other by small arms fire.
