If one's mediocre marksmanship skills fails to kill the enemy in the first 300 meters with 30 rounds worth of 5.56mm X 45mm ammo - an 8-inch blade affixed to an assault rifle is not going to be of much help.

Summer: You are so right. 60% of my 200 man combat engineer company were either killed or wounded in a bayonet attack in the Korean War. Thanks for your very astute comment.
