Cork--the Vets for Peace chapter up in Boston have the right idea. THEIR Mem'l Day Observance memorializes ALL victims of war--the GI's, those on the other side, the GI suicides past and future, AND civilians. It started last year, and I'll probably go THERE instead, as it is annual. Why?? Because up until now, most Memorial Day (and Veterans' Day) observances that I'VE seen are and have always been too pro-war and/or militaristic. THIS WAY is a whole lot better, and I hope the idea spreads. Flowers are thrown into Boston Harbor as names of GI dead are read. Then, bouquets are thrown in for the aforementioned other victims. Flags are up, also, but not in the usual way that you see them in the traditional way. The accent is on PEACE, not glorifying war.
