U.S. warns of suicide attacks in Baghdad "in the near future"

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Al Qaeda in Iraq is planning suicide attacks against Iraqis in Baghdad "in the near future," the U.S. military warned Friday.

Information collected by coalition forces indicated that "numerous terrorists" had entered the Baghdad area to carry out attacks using vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices or suicide vests, according to a statement from the Multi-National Corps-Iraq. No details were provided.
One or more of the attacks were expected to target the Karkh district of Baghdad, where a car bomb exploded in March 2005 near the Sunni mosque Ibn Tamiya. The mosque is on the dangerous road leading to the Baghdad airport. There were no reports of casualties.
Iraqis were being warned to be vigilant for signs of terrorist activity and asked to report any unusual signs through tip lines or troops in their area.
Iraqi Security Forces and Coalition Forces were distributing pamphlets describing signs that may indicate terrorist activity.
Brig. Gen. Qassim Atta, the spokesman for the Baghdad security plan, warned listeners Friday during the main newscast on al-Iraqia state TV.
Reiterating what the U.S. military said about credible intelligence indicating that suicide, vehicle and IED attacks are being planned by "terrorist groups," Atta asked people to be cautious and wary.
He asked them to call the Iraqi Security Forces and the hot lines for the ministries of Defense and Interior and the Baghdad security plan hot lines to report anything suspicious.
Indications of a possible suicide-vest attack include people displaying abnormal behavior such as an agitated demeanor and wearing inappropriate clothing for the weather.
Signs of a possible vehicle-borne improvised explosive attack are unfamiliar vehicles driving repeatedly around crowded areas, people taking videos or photos of these areas, cars without license plates or multiple fuel cans in the seat or trunk of a vehicle. Attackers also might use a stolen ambulance.
The Multi-National Corps-Iraq statement said that historically, al Qaeda in Iraq attacked large gatherings of people: funerals, markets and checkpoints.

does anyone believe this crap anymore ?
If they know about "numerous terrorists" crossing the border, why not stop them ? why not arrest them ?
why not GAURD the "border" ?
or maybe.. how about.. remove the reason and the target ?
or how about some numbers here.. how many real, verifiable al qaeda members are really "crossing the border" into iraq ?
or is an army of hundreds of thousands of al qaeda members trying to "take over" iraq now that we blew the f&*@ out of it and left it ripe for the pickin ?
funny, hundreds of thousands of the best and bravest soldiers on earth can't seem to control iraq, but we're afraid a few hundred al qaeda members are going to ??
hmmm, would al qaeda even be planning this attack on baghdad if US troops weren't there ?
This is just another version of the "terror alert level".
it's a manufactured problem that didn't exist before..
being used to somehow justify the disastrous mistake that created it in the first place.

Our troops are being used like pawns in a chess game.
You can tell just how much Bush and Cheney care about our troops by the way Cheney answered the ABC reporter's question about whether he is concerned that most Americans are opposed to the war. Cheney's flippant response was; "so." Like in "who gives a F@@K."
This whole war had nothing to do with bringing democracy to Iraq. It had to do with the egos of two of the sickest people who ever served this country as President and Vice President.

HOW DO THEY KNOW WHO IS AL QAEDA AND WHO IS NOT? THEY DON'T
IT'S PROPAGANDA TO CONTINUE A MILITARY OCCUPATION WHICH IS VERY PROFITABLE FOR MANY DEFENSE CORPORATIONS YET THE TAXPAYER(AND THIER GRANDCHILDREN) WILL PAY FOR YEARS ON THIS WAR IN IRAQ THE TAXPAYER ALSO PAYS IN BLOOD.
Thanks for commenting. You hit the nail right on the head. There is no such thing as an Al Qaeda drivers license.
Also, I have talked with many vets who tell me they have no idea who they are fighting over there. They can't tell one person from another. They don't wear uniforms like in any other war so our troops haven't got any idea who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.
There is no such thing as an Al Qaeda UNIFORM.

It is hard to believe that there are people still so dumb not to see this war is all about defense contracts to fat cat Republicans.
Fat cat Republicans, I might add, who would NEVER allow their sons or daughters to enlist in the military or serve in any capacity with the United States military.
