AGHANISTAN CIVILIANS HATE U.S. TROOPS (WATCH VIDEO AND SEE WHY)

The Afghanistan people have turned against the United States troops who have occupied Afghanistan for the past seven years.

The reason is because they have seen many of their people killed when the U.S. military made mistakes and bombed weddings and even funerals.

This video shows what has happened in Afghanistan and why the Afghanistan people feel the United States is worse for their country than the previous invasion by the Russians which ended up in disaster for the Russians.

At the beginning of this video, you will see Sec. of Defense Robert Gates talking about what has to be done in Afghanistan. One thing he doesn't mention is the United States is preparing to send in another 30,000 troops into Afghanistan.

SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR VETERANS (MUST READ FOR ALL VETERANS)

The BUSH ADMINISTRATION has been woefully negligent in providing veterans with the information they need to adjust to civilian life.

However, the VETERANS FOR AMERICA has published a "survival booklet" for veterans which can be downloaded here: veteransforamerica.org.

Read more about it below:

Editorial---THE NEW YORK TIMES

Survival Guide for Veterans

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/19/opinion/19fri2.html?_r=2&ref=todayspaper

Far too often, military veterans find themselves desperately short of the information they need as they make the torturous quest for benefits within one of this country’s most daunting bureaucracies, the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Officials say help is on the way, but administrators are forever promising to streamline procedures for an era of conquered paperwork that never seems to come. That is why it is heartening to see that one promising form of help has indeed arrived: a 599-page guide to veterans’ issues, from educational help to vocational rehabilitation, from housing to citizenship.

It’s called “The American Veterans’ and Servicemembers’ Survival Guide,” and it comes, unsurprisingly, from outside the system. It is a publication of the nonprofit advocacy group Veterans for America, available as a free download at veteransforamerica.org.

This electronic book is a descendant of “The Viet Vet Survival Guide,” which was published a decade after the end of that conflict — when veterans were still being routinely and shamefully denied their rights. The new book was written by veterans and lawyers for a new generation of soldiers with old problems, like post-traumatic stress, and new ones like traumatic brain injury, the brutal legacy of Iraq’s and Afghanistan’s roadside bombs.

The authors caution that while the guide will help a veteran understand what’s going on, it is not a substitute for a good lawyer or other advocate. And it isn’t the only source of information: The government, too, has vast Web sites explaining things — for example, how officers help veterans through the disability evaluation system. (In military acronyms, it’s how the Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Officer, or Peblo, helps with the D.E.S.)

The “Survival Guide” does this, too, but with a difference: It also warns veterans to “pay careful attention to what you say to your Peblo,” because the Peblo is not required to act in their best interests the way an attorney is, and things told to a Peblo are not necessarily confidential.
No book will ever defeat a bureaucracy this large, but a book can help people to subdue it.

Veterans and their families often praise the dedication of health-care providers, but at the same time express utter frustration over incomprehensible thickets of rules and the glacial pace at which benefits and appeals are decided.

Unless and until the government significantly improves its treatment of veterans — and our hopes are high for progress under Gen. Eric Shinseki, President-elect Barack Obama’s nominee to run Veterans Affairs — they will have to keep looking to one another for help, as they always have. This veterans’ guide looks like a powerful updating of that old tradition.

U.S. TROOPS OPEN FIRE ON STUDENTS AT FALLUJAH "SHOE RALLY"

The media in the United States has totally misconstrued the "shoe tossing" incident against President George W. Bush the other day in Baghdad.

The media in the U.S., especially the White House "mouthpiece" FOX NEWS, claimed the Iraqi reporter would be killed if the incident had happened when Saddam Hussein was in power.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The Iraqi reporter would be hailed as a hero if Saddam Hussein were still in power.

Now comes word, U.S. troops have opened fire on students attending a "shoe rally" in Fallujah.

Read more here:

US Troops Open Fire On Fallujah Students at Shoe Rally

Separate Incident Reported at Baghdad Bridge as Public Increasingly Shows Unrest

Posted December 17, 2008

http://news.antiwar.com/2008/12/17/us-troops-clash-with-fallujah-students-at-shoe-rally/

Besides making an international celebrity out of Iraqi reporter Muntadar al-Zeidi, the now infamous shoe-throwing incident is cropping up in surprising ways across Iraq, where a population beaten and exhausted from years of war is once again finding its voice against the US military presence and the Iraqi government seen as its enablers.

The city of Fallujah was one of the hardest hit in all of Iraq, nearly
destroyed earlier in the war. When students at the city’s university held an impromptu rally in support of the jailed Zeidi, US soldiers were quick on the scene.

The students raised shoes and some of them threw rocks, prompting the troops to open fire in an attempt to disperse the crowd. One student was wounded, shot in the foot according to his doctor.

Reporter Mohammed al-Dulaimy tells another story at the July 14 Bridge in Baghdad. The bridge is closed to the public several times a day while official convoys pass through… just another reality in the war-torn city. But today when Iraqi soldiers arrived and attempted to close the bridge, angry drivers refused.

They continued on their way, honking angrily when the soldiers got in their way.

Predictably, the soldiers drew their rifles and began firing. Surprisingly, traffic continued through the square and across the bridge.

THE REAL M*A*S*H FIELD HOSPITAL IN IRAQ (GRAPHIC VIDEO)

While President Bush, Vice President Cheney and former Ass't Sec. of Defense Gaffney are all over TV trying to soft soap the American public on why it was necessary to invade and occupy Iraq, this VIDEO shows what took place at a real M*A*S*H field hospital in Iraq.

Bush, Cheney and Gaffney haven't got a clue what they did and most of all they don't care.

I doubt if Bush, Cheney or Gaffney EVER looked at a VIDEO like this.

Saddam Hussein had about as much capability of striking the United States as a Boy Scout Troop does of leading a revolt to takeover the country.

Only FOX NEWS buys the garbage Bush, Cheney and Gaffney are peddling on TV lately.

This VIDEO can be tough to take at times, but the war started by Bush, Cheney, Gaffney and rest of the evil cabal in the Bush White House is not for the "suits" back in the United States.

It is for the brave young men and women who serve in Iraq and Afghanistan and the medics who are there to try to save their lives when they are wounded.

THE BUSH IRAQ LEGACY: IRAQI HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN SHAMBLES

Before the United States invaded and occupied Iraq, the Iraqi medical system was considered one of the finest in the world.

Today it is in shambles and it is all because of President George W. Bush and his misguided notion that we had to invade and occupy Iraq.

The following story by foreign correspondent DAHR JAMAIL examines the Iraqi medical system and what is taking place in one Iraqi city.

Looking After Pockets, Not Patients

by Ahmed Ali and Dahr JamailDecember 15th, 2008 Inter Press Service

BAQUBA — A nurse at Baquba General Hospital asked Ahmed Ali, who co-authored this report, for a bribe to look after his sick baby.

It was hardly an exceptional demand. Patients around Iraq have begun commonly to speak of the need to bribe medical staff to get some form of care.“Nurses in Iraqi hospitals are no angels of mercy,” Falah Najim, who was a patient at the main hospital in Baquba told IPS. “They look after their pockets, not the patient.

”The practice of bribing medical staff has been around since at least the 1990s, during the difficult days of the sanctions imposed on Iraq after the first Gulf War. After the U.S. invasion of 2003, this seems to have become worse, like so much else in Iraq.

“The profession of medicine has changed from a profession of mercy to just money making,” Abdullah Najeeb, a trader in Baquba city, about 40km north-east of Baghdad, told IPS.Staff shortage has clearly made the problem worse. More than half of about 36,000 medical workers who were in the country at the time the U.S. invasion, including doctors, nurses and other staff, have fled the country.

“It is very hard to see a doctor in a hospital or in a clinic,” hospital employee Sabay Ismail told IPS.Stories of suffering in hospitals have become commonplace.“I spent a night in the public hospital without air-conditioning,” the mother of a baby, who did not wish to give her name, told IPS. “My baby kept sweating all night in the heat. The resident doctor came to see the child only once.

I took my baby away; we did not complete the treatment. Then I could not find good medical treatment even in the private hospitals. The baby died because of their negligence.”“There are two public hospitals in Baquba; one for children and the other is general,” an official in the Diyala directorate-general of health told IPS, requesting anonymity. In both, he said, “we continue to suffer from a shortage of doctors.”“Twenty pregnant women might have only one doctor to help them deliver the child within a space of one or two hours,” the husband of a pregnant woman due to deliver told IPS.

“Hundreds of people who go to hospital may find an employee or nurse, but no doctor.”The few doctors who remain are mostly resident doctors or young graduates. Most specialists and senior doctors have long since fled. The ones who remain make do with ill-equipped hospitals.

“The government specifies big funds and projects for renovation and equipment for the hospitals,” an official in the provincial health office told IPS. “But deals are made between the contractors and the politicians.”Former deputy minister for health Dr Amer Al-Khuzaie had told IPS in 2005 that his ministry was allocated a billion dollars of the 18.6 billion dollars set aside by the U.S. government for rebuilding Iraq. But the Ministry of Health does not have control over the funds, Al-Khuzaie said. Instead USAID, the U.S. government body responsible for allocating reconstruction funds, handed out contracts to foreign corporations.

The corporations spent the funds as they saw fit. Now, the problem is more of corruption. In late 2007, the Ministry of Health was taken over by Shia politicians aligned with cleric Mutada Al-Sadr. There is almost nothing of the budget to show in Iraq’s hospitals. “They only paint the walls,” says Baquba resident Bahira Aboud.Private hospitals have their own handicaps. “Two months ago my six-year-old daughter went for tonsils surgery,” said resident Abul-Amir Mahood.

“After they gave her anaesthetic, the electricity shut down. They had no generator. I waited for my daughter to regain consciousness, then just took her back home.”The health ministry has reported a recent outbreak of cholera. This has scared residents in Baquba because the local hospitals are not equipped to deal with it.In Baquba, as in many other cities, most of the established clinics are closed. Some doctors see patients in their houses, that have been turned into impromptu, ill-equipped, clinics.A large number of such ‘clinics’ have come up, where doctors charge patients ten to 20 dollars for a consultation. Where the average monthly salary — for those lucky enough to have a job — is around 180 dollars, this is a heavy fee.And not for the best treatment.

“There are doctors who see more than 100 patients a day,” said resident Fatima Edan. “Their diagnosis is badly affected by the speed with which they go through patients. The quicker the better, they are greedy for more money.”
