When I was in the Army during the Korean War we carried 60 pounds, but that did not include our M1 rifle, ammo and ammo belt and bayonet.
Watch video to see how much weight our GIs are carrying in Afghanistan.
As they say in the US Army, Bill - ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain. Even when carrying a "mere" 75 pounds worth of gear and marching about 5 hours a day during my ROTC training, my eating quota during chow-time more than doubled.
ReplyDeleteRingo...I remember those "forced marches" of 16 miles or more and it felt like I was carrying 200 pounds and not 60 by the end of the march. I would have eaten "SOS" after that. LOL Bill
